Flower Description: 'Happy Spring' is one of a new series of “Happy” asiatic hybrids we have been both looking at as well as working with. Though Asiatic lilies in general seem to be falling off the map in Holland in favor of the LA hybrids, (Easter Lily x Asiatic) which the forcers and florists favor for their longer vase life, there certainly will always be a need for good asiatics in the garden. They bloom first each season, have the widest range of colors available in the entire lily world, and with their bloom, alert us to spring being just around the corner.
Most pastel lilies we recommend planting in light shade, but being that 'Happy Spring' is a May bloomer, hot sun in most areas of the country are not a concern in regards to fading. These lilies are finished before those 80 and 90 degree days of summer come along. We have found this lily to be a heavy bloomer and though unscented, most are so taken with its soft baby pink beauty, they often say with surprise “I can smell a fragrance”. Beauty often takes control over the mind and this lily is no exception. The petals are nearly spotless having just a small ring of spots in the flower centers as a subtle accent. Height ranges from 18 to 24 inches making this a great selection for the garden border. A late May / Early June bloomer here in the Pacific Northwest. Unscented.
