'Lilium davidii var. macranthum'

L. davidii var. macranthum differs from the type in that it reaches heights of 6 feet (1.8 meters) , is very robust, a bears a large number of flowers that are widely speced. The lower pedicels usually produce two and sometimes even 3 flowers each. Shown for the first time in the RHS show in 1934, it gained an Award of Merit. Flowers are a pleasing mahogany-red in color. As with the other forms of L. davidii, seed is immediate epigel in germination.
