L. speciosum var. punctatum as photographed at the Gothenburg Botanical Garden in Sweden. Photo copyright Pontus Wallstén all rights reserved. Used with permission.

In 'Lilies' by Patrick M. Synge, Universal Books, 1980, he states that var. puncatum is "paler than 'Melpomense and does not have a large or well formed of a flower." He says however, "This is the form grown widely in Holland and is much used for forcing". Much has changed since 1980 as this lily is now no longer found in commerce for either the garden or the forcing trade.

Pontus has an excellent book titled 'The Lily Species and their bulbs' and he can be contacted by email at pontus.wallsten@bluewin.ch for more information. He also offers some rare species lilies in limited quantities that are shipped from his nursery in Switzerland.

This page is for reference only, not as an offer to sell species bulbs or seeds.
