Flower Description: (LeVern Friemann, Bellingham, Washington) Breeder LeVern Friemann simply refered to this lily as 'Beauty Supreme' as he considered it to be in all modisty, an overall improvement on 'Black Beauty'. We can attest based on experience with this lily that indeed it was a significant improvement. We first viewed this lily in 1992 and though we wanted to select it for possible introduction, it was LeVern's wish that it be held back as “I have better lilies than this”. From this line, he had bred his world famous 'Scheherazade' as well as 'Juan de Fuca' and 'Northwest Passage'. With time being the ultimate test of a lily, only 'Scheherazade' and 'Beauty Supreme' are still with us today. We never really built up the numbers on 'Beauty Supreme', always falling back on 'Scheherazade' in the field, but each year for two decades now there was always 'Beauty Supreme' saying to us “Hey, look at me!”
It is time to let others enjoy the magnificence of this lily that was so important in LeVern's 'Black Beauty' breeding lines. Though often neglected by us while sitting off alone in a side garden, she just kept coming back year after year. Found to be willing to produce seed for LeVern (fertility as a seed parent), his breeding techniques were exactly that, his techniques, and as such we do not guarantee fertility for others. Approximately 20 bulbs will be harvested for fall deliveries and when those are gone, there will be no back orders. This is a historically significant lily and is being sold as such. As with 'Scheherazade', 'Beauty Supreme' came out of the same 'Tetraploid Black Beauty' x 'Tetraploid Rachael Pappo' breeding line.
These deep, rose-violet to almost black-red centered flowers have ivory margins and raised papillae and are primarily ivory on the petal reverse with some green highlights as well as some of the face color. Very light fragrance. 4 to 5 feet when settled. July / August flowering.
