'Lycos' is a difficult one to described as the color blending is so rich there is nothing else like it for comparison. Dianna's description is probably the best. “Raspberry center blending to pink with lavender overtones”. Flower centers are highlighted with a bit of frosty white and just a hint of pepper small spots. This June bloomer reaches 3 to 4 feet, but we expect well settled bulbs to be close to 5 feet. Very light fragrance.

BREEDING NOTE: The result of years of work, the new Trumpet x Asiatics are “the next step” and they will, it is felt during the next decade replace Asiatic and Easter x Asiatic (LA's) not only in the florist trade, but in the garden trade as well.

The big advancement over their predecessors is that unlike the Easter x Asiatics, they do not have the white base color that the Easters pass along in many of their offspring. This means that as the flower ages, it will not pale as the white base color begins to show through with many selections. With their trumpet “mothers”, the base colors are solid and rich which comes through in the resulting flowers. This new line is a product of what is known as embryo rescue – the seed embryo is removed from the shell and grown on in an agar mix as the seeds do not have the required endosperm (food) to nourish growth.

The first of this new series introduced was 'Night Rider' selected for its rich red-black color. These new selections, all coming to us directly from the breeder this spring, are sure to please. Colors are rich, rich, rich in thanks to the deeply pigmented trait of their seed parents. Growing from 3 to 4 feet, we expect with care, these garden marvels will reach closer to 5 feet as do their trumpet mothers. All are mid to late June flowering and have a very light scent.
