(Species / Wild Lily)
One of the most beautiful as well as darkest flowers, deep maroon-black, our title photo comes from Pontus Wallstén of Switzerland. Reported to be more vigorous than the "type" or pink form. Woodcock & Stearn (1950) report this form of Lilium Martagon was originally found in a woody area near Muc, Dalmatia by Maria de' Cattani hence the name 'Cattaniae'. For some time it was also known as L. martagon var. dalmaticum due to the original location of discovery.
