'Ben Kirk' (Hemerocallis)

Foliage Type: DORMANT - Dies down to ground in winter. USDA Zones 3-10, lows to -40 deg F. Areas in the deep south or mild costal climates, choose Semi-evergreen or Evergreen cultivars for year round foliage.

(Stock #H-2146) (Barth, 1985) Dormant. 36". Midseason. This goergous daylily has dazzeling 6 inch pumpkin-orange, ruffled petals with very large paprika-red eyes blend to a golden throat. Nice contrast with its own dark green foliage. Flowers stay open into the evening. Great for bold borders and along patios.

Plant Size - Plant size varies from 3 to 4 fans, dependent on season and state of growth. Most daylily plants shipped during summer will have larger, tougher fans, but will probably not bloom the same year. Daylilies delivered in early spring will have just begun to break dormancy, thus will tend to have smaller, more tender top growth and may develop flower buds later in summer. You can let the buds open, but for the first summer, it is suggested that the flowering scape (stem) be removed to allow the root system to settle-in faster.
